- Let $Y \subseteq X \in {\mathsf{Sch}}_{/ {k}} $ be a closed subscheme. A deformation of \(Y\) over \(D\) in \(X\) is a closed subscheme \(Y^{\prime} \subseteq X^{\prime}=X \times D\), flat over \(D\), such that \(Y^{\prime} \times_{D} k=Y\). Goal: classify all deformations of \(Y\) over \(D\).
